As a musician since I was 16 yrs old, I have played weddings, funerals, classrooms, boardrooms, stages, parks and even once upon a time a parking lot…..when it was 110 degrees (43c). Every long now and then you have one of those nights onstage where you capture that lightning in a bottle to show your friends, or stumble across the end of the rainbow or capture that small piece of magic that will not fade in its ability inspire you in the weeks and months to come.
Over the weekend, I had one of those nights. Donzos Cosmos is a Las Vegas based loop artist who invited me to share the stage with him last weekend on the far west end of town. He and I shared the stage at the Hard Rock over the summer, (see July 20th Blog) but until last Saturday, we had yet to perform together.
As a solo performer, I don’t get the chance to perform with another musician even a fraction of how much I’d like to. Guitar players, Uke Players, Drummers, Singers and I have made music together but never another dyed-in-the-wool loop artist. Donzo Cosmos was the first, and quite frankly: he was incredible. Music by itself is its own language, I suppose being a looper would be comparable to sharing a language AND an accent. Music was turning on a dime and instead of a song being made between the two of us, it was truly a soundscape mixed with a journey. I had a blast.
If you have never listened to Donzos Cosmos, then I would make it a point to on the quick. I was telling somebody the night after the gig, “He never plays a wrong note!” Everything is right where it should be and right when(!) it should be, but never at the expense of sounding mechanical or over rehearsed. Spontaneity is still found coming from the deep waters of this wave of creativity. Check him out, follow him on Facebook and make it a point to check out his website. He has some very exciting events coming up in the future.
I also wanted to thank everybody that came out to the show as well. Friends and fans from different facets of my life came out and made the show that much more special. Members of the local media, burlesque dancers, actresses and even U.S. National Loop Champion Phil Stendek came out. To have support at that level is very much appreciated.
The tour is looking to maaaybe adding a few extra dates on the beginning of it. I am talks with a few places to bring my show to their proverbial shores. Once those details are ironed out, then I will announce it on my social media outlets and here on my website. I am still gathering sponsorships from both individuals and businesses. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, contact me and we can work out the details.
Keep your eyes open, with a little but of luck, the next couple of days should prove to be instrumental in adding for more dates to the tour. Thanks for all of your continued support. Every comment, email, and message is read and responded to. Reach out and say hello!
